Consumer demand recovers as CPI up in opening month of the year
The consumer price index (CPI) in January increased 0.31 per cent compared to December and 3.37 per cent compared to January last year, the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO) has said. Domestic consumption is gradually recovering, but many workers’ lives remain difficult two years after Covid-19, affecting growth in consumption. Many policies to address difficulties in production and business were actively and synchronously implemented during 2023, which provide an important premise for the business community to boost production and business this year. The loosening of fiscal and monetary policies, the flexible management of many interest rate reductions, and the continued application of tax and fee reduction policies will have a positive impact on production and consumption throughout the course of 2024.
