Adjusting policies to adapt to the new situation, Russia has advocated strengthening economic relations towards the East, including ASEAN members like Vietnam, and emerging BRICS countries. The bilateral economic relationship between Vietnam and Russia is considered to have not reached its full potential as yet given the history of friendly relations between the two countries. The potential in economic relations will be expanded if Vietnam can promote its role as a bridge between Russia and ASEAN members. At a forum with the theme “Economic cooperation between ASEAN and emerging economies and Russia in the new context”, analysts said the two sides boast substantial potential in energy cooperation because ASEAN’s energy demand will double by 2050 and Russia has huge capacity to meet this energy need, especially in coal, oil, and gas. Cooperation could include a number of projects, such as oil and natural gas exploitation and processing, the development of environmentally-friendly energy technology, electrical power, nuclear energy, and other alternative energy sources in line with the global need for sustainable energy solutions.
