Under the National Power Development Plan VIII (PDP 8) to 2030, domestic gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) thermal power sources are to reach more than 37,000 MW, equivalent to nearly 25 per cent of total power supply, including 24,000 MW from LNG power, or 15 per cent of the total. Analysts view this as a major challenge. A host of obstacles will hinder LNG reaching expectations and require different solutions in planning, price mechanisms, building synchronous infrastructure, and ensuring supply chains for gas production and importation.
