COVER STORY
Vietnam’s move towards sustainability includes a greater
focus on corporate and government bonds and addressing
the issues that have hampered development in the past.
While a recent conference hosted by the Hanoi Stock
Exchange looked at new products in the bond market and
the existing rules and regulations and possible changes, VET
co-hosted a seminar on the role credit ratings agencies may
play in market development. With significant capital needed
not only for Vietnam’s quest for net-zero emissions by 2050
but also for the continued recovery of business activities
and, hence, the economy, a revitalized bond market is
essential in mobilizing funds and diversifying away from
traditional long-based channels.
