                                                             After a somewhat disappointing 2023, when a number of
                                                             economic indicators came in short of targets, results in the
                                                             first quarter of this year took on greater importance, not only
                                                             for the annual plan but also for the five-year 2021-2025 plan.
                                                             Though Vietnam’s GDP growth reached a record high in the
                                                             post-pandemic era, Q1 performance left much to do over the
                                                             remainder of 2024. Concerns were even expressed at a
                                                             recent discussion co-hosted by VET / VnEconomy over the
                                                             lack of sustainability evident in some first-quarter results
                                                             and what they may mean for this year and next. But
                                                             optimism was also in abundant supply, as it is still early days
                                                             and there is ample time for the country’s economy to shine.
