A victory that

‘shook the world’

A grand ceremony and parade to mark the 70th
anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory has been held
in the land where the famous battle took place.

ith its victory in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954,
which “resounded across the five continents and shook
W the world,” Vietnam put an end to colonialism on its
territory and restored peace in the northern part of the country.
The victory paved the way for the Vietnamese people, under the
leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, to continue their
struggle against neo-colonialism and foreign aggression in South
Vietnam until the final victory on April 30, 1975. The country has
now been reunified and has developed rapidly to secure middle-
income status, boasting substantial potential and international
prestige for further development.
Interestingly, Dien Bien Phu, which is a historically-famous name
where a fierce military confrontation between Vietnam and France
took place, has served as a bridge linking the two former enemies in
a spirit of shelving the past and looking towards the future.
